The 91 x 91 mm newel base is a square piece of timber which is rounded at the top and has a 50 mm diameter hole to take a newel post that has a dowel. The length of the newel base determines the overall height of the newel post. These bases are unfinished and can be finished by either painting, varnishing or waxing.
